Masterplan for the regeneration of the Budapest Nyugati Western Railway Station and surroundings.
The new station hall is an interpretation of the Eiffel Hall pitched roof towards the front, morphing gently into a vaulted ceiling inspired by the other heritage building preserved on site, the motor hall. Those two presences not only frame the above ground intervention, but also define the language of the new station roof in a conceptual and volumetric way. The station as a transient space and as a transition through time and the historical building present on site. The materiality of the Eifel Hall propagates in the contemporary intervention, giving continuity and reinforcing the visual identity of the station complex. The new station roof is a seamless continuation of the historical hall.
