Masterplan for Yumeshima Island, Osaka. This 390 hectare island in Osaka Bay has been chosen to stage the Expo 2025 World Fair and is also proposed as the setting for a luxury Integrated Resort commissioned by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, a developer, owner and operator of casino gaming and entertainment casino resort facilities in Asia.
The proposed development features and platforms deluxe and five-
star hotel accommodation with 5,000 keys, restaurants, cultural and entertainment amenities, shows, bars and clubs, as well as lifestyle retail, along with the Wellness Centre and Water Park. The proposal has been developed as a competitive bid to be reviewed by Osaka City and Prefecture and members of the local business community. Its design and vision of a future in which advanced technology, lifestyles and nature are harmoniously integrated comprehensively addresses their aspirations for the Global Tourism Hub on Yumeshima to promote the local and regional community and its economy and enrich its cultural and natural assets.Rising to a height of 180m, the Mountains Hotel Towers formation on the north side of the Integrated Resort, will loom over the island. Mountains are an essential feature of Japan’s topogra- phy, covering approximately 75 per cent of its surface.
I had a leading design role and was responsible for designing and developing the main Casino Hotel Towers, as well designing other important support buildings, such as the Waterpark, the Masterplan Promenade, the MICE and the Convention Centre.
Due to a short deadline and nature of the project, the design of the main Hotel building had to be taken to a very high level of detail, while at the same time the final commercial product was being fine-tuned
and in a constant flux, pushing the team to be able to iterate between new design options and solutions on a daily basis. I delivered a strong design which was detrimental for the project concept.
I also supervised the visualization companies and worked alongside them to develop still and VR images for the project.
